Top 5 Communication Apps on Android in South America - Q1 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, the top 5 communication apps on the Android platform in South America—WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram, WhatsApp Business, Messenger, and Snapchat—exhibited varied performance in downloads and active users, according to data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads ranging from 860K to 1.27M. The app saw a peak in downloads in the last week of March, reaching approximately 1.27M. Weekly active users also increased steadily from 188M to 190.7M throughout the quarter.

Telegram experienced fluctuations in downloads, with weekly figures ranging from 522K to 734K. The highest download count was recorded in the first week of January at approximately 734K. Active users saw a slight decline from 21.1M to 20.7M over the quarter. Revenue for Telegram showed a notable increase, peaking at around $25.8K in the last week of February.

WhatsApp Business also showed robust performance in downloads, starting at 545K in late December and peaking at around 669K by the end of March. The app's active users grew from 18.6M to 20.4M. Revenue saw a peak of $2.5K in the first week of February but declined to $709 by the end of March.

Messenger maintained relatively stable download numbers, fluctuating between 541K and 621K. The highest downloads were observed in the third week of February. However, active users declined from 49.8M to 47M over the quarter. Revenue peaked at $586 in the first week of March.

Snapchat saw a decrease in downloads from 598K at the start of the quarter to 392K by the end of March. Active users also showed a downward trend, starting at 46.2M and ending at 44.2M. Revenue for Snapchat was relatively low, peaking at $58 in the last week of February.
